It seems the MonSter isnt going to kill me so I am trying to make a comeback.
We have moved to 40 acres and I hope to document our journey from wanting to retire to a hobby farm to whatever the future may hold.
We currently have million dollar views of the front range. (Colorado) and dry pasture land.

Does anyone else blog intermittently?
I find that I think about the blog, but more often simply stop there.
So I am going to put a reminder to myself. I plan to post to the blog on Tuesdays.
Not much to post today except intention.
Waiting for spring and trying to figure out how to live a bit more lightly on the earth.
Aquaponics, mycorrhiza, container gardening, and compost. That takes most of my summer time now.
I am using forearm crutches much of the time now. Though I know that as summer comes I walk with more ease.
Look for something on here Tuesday.
Planned topic is the kiddie pool grow system. I think I have become a real fan of Larry Hall. Using the recycled grocery bags and other reuse of kiddie pools, or 2 liter bottles and such. Lets see what I can get in here.

Gold fish...
Today I put 30 feeder goldfish into pool 2. They are happily trying to gorge themselves on mosquito larvae.
I don't know if they can eat themselves to death but they might be trying. I have a dunk in the water but it seem that I didn't get it in quite in time.
The fire seems to be about 80% under control now. This is a very good thing.
So the picture of the day is of the new gold fish and my yucky looking pool 2 as it is cycling in day 12.

I don't know who took this picture but it just about says it all.
The entire town is in shock.
I am using my particulate mask and the O2 when I need it.
Please Please Please make a bug out bag that has at least three days of supplies in it for a grab and go situation.
The fire has made the Air Force Academy evacuate. Those kids are being real troopers!

Pool number two is cycling...
That means it is just sitting there and waiting for conditions to be right so I can start planting or adding fish.
That's right folks... Boring!
So I am going to head over to my favorite pond supply store here in town. Picking up a couple of odds and ends makes me feel like something is going on that is forward motion. I have been told it can take six weeks to cycle... but imna gonna cheat!! Pool number one will be donating water, and some plants this week so that it will give pool number two starts living. There is nothing more sad than a dead pool of water.
It is day five now... but day one looked something like this. (day five looks like this with leaf litter and ash in the water... Waldo Canyon Fire is drifting ash on us.)

Well ... it's about time!
It looks like my health is improving...no one in the family has done serious damage to themselves in weeks.
Son has recovered from lung surgery last fall and is awaiting a double lung transplant now.
Husband is still on crutches and may be walking again by fall.
What's a girl to do... aquaponics on the cheap!
You can't get a more natural system. It is non polluting unlike hydroponics, and it is a joy to work with.
Using kiddie pools because they are a cheap container of water to learn in.
Pool number one is horribly overgrown, has had a bad run in with the roofers and two hail storms and is going strong.
Pool number two just went up yesterday and is going to be a deep raft food production system.
So here is post number one on my small efforts to keep some of the fresh water fresh.

Crack house?
Well, it has been awhile since I have posted anything. There has been a real health crisis in my family that isn't mine. The picture above is of two of my grand daughters hand quilting blocks for a pirate crazy quilt (from a kit that I got from Crazy Rebecca's Etsy store) while we wait for my son's surgery to finish up. They don't know what he has really... perhaps he had exposure to environmental toxins by living in an apartment where they may have been smoking crack. Just a guess from the Dr.s. Either way he is waiting for a double lung transplant.Unless you test where you are moving into you won't know what is there. Most places that are on uninhabitable lists are not enforced because there just isn't the man power to do it.
We don't know that this is what happened to him. All we know is that his lungs are dying. When the dr. suggested this as some cause I grasped onto it because I needed something to blame. I suggest that you research it yourself if you are going to buy a property or move into one. Most countys have a list that will show where the "crack house' busts were or where the meth cooking labs were. If you are in one, and they find out, the team will give you a moment to gather a change of clothing and then evict you. Everything in the home will be contaminated and lost until it has been through decontamination procedures!
I think that I am going to have to be very careful when I make my next move.
